Yay! I Started A Podcast

Yay! I Started A Podcast
Yay! I Started A Podcast AB

If you had told me at the start of this week that I'd have a podcast, I'd call your bluff. Well, it so happens, you'd have been right.

It started with a friend replying to my WhatsApp status on Tuesday (21/07). It was a long epistle, and the short version was this: you should get your thoughts out there more as it would be useful to a lot of people, especially those being swayed by unreasonable influencers.

It made me laugh so hard, but it also highlighted something I had pondered on and off for a while. How do I connect and share my thoughts with more people around the world?

I've got a lot to say. My mind works in wondrous ways, and many times I believe the conversations I have with myself (the ones that make me laugh out loud, alone, like a mad woman) would make other people laugh too. I love to learn, and I love to share what I learn โ€” out loud, with anyone interested.

I grin from ear to ear when people disagree with me, because it challenges my position. If I can't articulate that position and defend it, then it's probably time for a rethink. Is it mine, borrowed, or just plain wrong? I'm not afraid to change my mind. Gosh, what's the beauty of life if we don't evolve?

This is one of the reasons I started writing. I wanted to put my thoughts down somewhere, share them with as many as were interested, and when I die, if my kids ever had the question "What would mummy think about this?", they'd have a place to look. They'd also see how I evolved over time, and understand that life is just life, and many times, it's living us, not the other way round.

I didnโ€™t plan to give an elevator pitch, but well, here we are.

The Timeline

Here's how it went:

  • 10:14 am โ€” I made the commitment to try and record something. At least take the first step.

    commitment

  • 1 - 2 pm โ€” I got some free time and put Claude to work. I researched what platform was easiest to start with, what was required and how I would go about distribution.

  • 2:13 pm โ€” Claude had helped me generate options for a logo. I reused the name of this blog.

Logo options
  • 2:53 pm โ€” I hit record on the voice recorder app on my phone. I talked through a topic I'd already written about, which was the easiest way to start, as opposed to sitting there thinking of topics. It wasn't perfect. I didn't care. I made no edits and recorded just once. I said I'd do something that day and I was determined to.

  • 3:31 pm โ€” I was done with all the buttons I needed to press on Spotify. My show was live.

In the days that followed, I was able to use the RSS feed from Spotify to get my show on Apple Podcasts and YouTube. No extra recording was required; just some verification bits.

Find, Follow, and Figure out life with me

Hereโ€™s how to find me on the different platforms:

I sincerely hope you find me, follow me and figure out life with me on the platform of your choice.

The part I actually want you to take

I went from "I'll try to record something" to a live show in five hours and seventeen minutes, with work and life happening in between.

I'm not telling you that to brag about speed. I'm telling you because at 10:00 am that morning I had no plans to start a podcast, and by evening, my show was live. This means the only thing that had ever been standing between me and a podcast was me.

We often wait for the conditions to be perfect before we start. The right mic, the right set-up, the right topic, or the right week. Meanwhile, the longer we wait, the more reasons arise to wait some more.

I've always known video would be a mountain for me, so I didn't try to climb it. I picked the format I could start and commit to. My first episode is not perfect, but it exists. I'm not competing with anyone โ€” this is my journey and I'm committed to enjoying the hell out of it, highs, lows and all.

All that's left is to stay consistent and keep recording. People have already started sending me their perspectives and things they'd love me to talk about. I'm really excited to see how this turns out.

Thanks for reading amigo. And please, start the thing โค๏ธ
